Een reeks verlichte panelen met beeld en tekst verduidelijken de resultaten van meer dan 15 jaar archeologisch onderzoek van de UGent in de Potenza-vallei in centraal Adriatisch Italië. Speciale aandacht wordt geschonken aan de presentatie van niet-invasieve archeologische technieken, de historisch-geografische context, de Romeinse impact op de dynamiek van landschappen en vooral de Romeinse stedelijke cultuur die door middel van het onderzoek van vier verlaten Romeinse steden wordt belicht. Via multimedia visualisaties van dit Gentse onderzoek in de Potenza-vallei kan men kennismaken met de meer dynamische presentaties van het soms erg innovatieve werk van de archeologen alsook met de 3D visualisaties van deze steden tijdens de Romeinse Keizertijd.

Dankzij de samenwerking met de Universiteit van Lund wordt tevens een dynamisch beeld gebracht van het niet-invasief onderzoek en de virtuele visualisatie van een rijk Romeinse stadshuis. Deze opgegraven woning van bankier Lucius Caecilius Iucundus in Pompeji kan met een interactieve VR-oculus toepassing virtueel bezocht worden door de bezoekers.   

Er worden geen specifieke rondleidingen voorzien want de opstelling wijst zichzelf uit maar mocht U geïnteresseerd zijn om de VR-oculus toepassing uit te proberen dit kan op 14, 21, 28 en 30 maart telkens van 14u tot 16u.

A series of illuminated panels with images and text illustrate the results of more than 15 years of archaeological research of Ghent University in the Potenza Valley of central Adriatic Italy. Special attention is given to the presentation of non-invasive archaeological techniques, the historical-geographical context, the Roman impact on the dynamics of landscapes and especially the Roman urban culture, which is presented by means of the research on four abandoned Roman cities. Via multimedia visualizations of this Ghent research in the Potenza Valley one can get acquainted with the more dynamic presentations of the sometimes very innovative work of the archaeologists as well as with the 3D visualizations of these cities during the Roman Imperial era.

Thanks to the collaboration with the Lund University, a dynamic presentation of the non-invasive research and the virtual visualization of a rich Roman town house is also being presented. This excavated home of banker Lucius Caecilius lucundus in Pompeii can be virtually visited by way of an interactive VR-oculus application.

No specific guided tours are planned but should you be interested in trying out the VR oculus application the sessions are scheduled on the 14th, 21st, 28th  and 30th of March each time from 2 pm until 16 pm.
