Literatuurwetenschapper Sean Bex wint tweede prijs Max van der Stoel Human Rights Award 2017
Op vrijdag 1 december 2017 ontving dr. Sean Bex de Max van der Stoel Human Rights Award (tweede prijs) aan Tilburg University voor zijn proefschrift over “Dave Eggers and Human Rights Culture”, dat hij eind 2016 verdedigde aan de Universiteit Gent.
De Max van der Stoel Human Rights Award wordt jaarlijks toegekend aan het beste proefschrift in het domein van de mensenrechten dat het voorgaande academiejaar aan een Nederlandse of Vlaamse universiteit is verdedigd.
De jury schreef in haar verslag over Seans proefschrift het volgende:
"To the jury the reading of his work was an eye-opening illustration of the different ways to approach the human rights discourse beyond the disciplines of law and political science. Bex focusses on the intersection of the work of Dave Eggers and the human rights discourse. Starting from this perspective he analyses the activism of Eggers and he combines insights from memory studies, narrative approaches and postcolonial studies. By combining and confronting various insights, his work is really innovative and most relevant also for the legal narrative of human rights."
Aan deze onderscheiding is een geldprijs verbonden van 1000 euro.
Sean was als doctoraatsbursaal werkzaam op een FWO-project binnen de Vakgroep Letterkunde (Afdeling Engels) van de faculteit Letteren en Wijsbegeerte van de UGent en is momenteel Brexit policy analyst op de Belgische ambassade in Londen.
