Wist je dat er bijna 10.000 junior onderzoekers momenteel een doctoraatsstudie in Vlaanderen afwerken? Hoewel deze onderzoeken via wetenschappelijke publicaties en conferenties vlot hun weg vinden naar collega's in de academische wereld, komt slechts een kleine fractie onder de aandacht van het grote publiek.

Daar wil "Wetenschap Uitgedokterd" wat aan doen! Met dit project wil SciMingo, organisator van de jaarlijkse PhD Cup, je leren hoe je mensen warm kan maken voor je onderzoek. We helpen je om de inzichten van het (post)doctoraatsonderzoek waar je jaren aan werkt(e) over te brengen op het brede publiek. Niet via een academische lezing, maar verteld als een meeslepend en begrijpelijk verhaal voor leken.

Een videotraining en workshop over presentatietechnieken helpen je de uitdaging aan te gaan: de kern van je doctoraatsonderzoek uitleggen in een heldere, snedige en overtuigende pitch. Elke deelnemer ontvangt een exemplaar van het boek "The Floor is Yours".

En dat is nog niet alles: 8 van de deelnemers zullen hun "PhD pitch" laten opnemen en online publiceren. De video-opnames vinden drie tot vier weken na de workshop plaats, zodat de geselecteerde onderzoekers hun presentatie verder kunnen ontwikkelen en bijschaven

Did you know that nearly 10.000 junior researchers are conducting a doctoral study in Flanders at the moment? While these researches find their way to colleagues in the academia through scientific publications and conferences, only a small amount is brought under the attention of the general public.

Enter the “Science figured out”-project. Through this project SciMingo, organizer of the yearly PhD Cup, wants to teach you how to get non-experts excited about your research ànd help you to convey insights of the doctoral research you are (or have been) working on for years to the general public! Not through an academic lecture, but told as a compelling and comprehensible story for non-peers. A video-course and workshop on presentation techniques will help you rise up to the challenge: explain the core of your PhD research in a clear and convincing pitch. Each participant will receive a copy of the book “The Floor is Yours”.

And that's not all: sixteen of the participants will have their “PhD pitch” recorded and published online. Video recordings will take place three to four weeks after the workshop, allowing the selected researchers to develop and tweak their presentation.
