Lingf… what?

We aim to be a place where researchers in linguistics at UGent can connect in an informal context. We organize the following activities:

  • The lunch talks: practice a talk or defense, test new ideas, present interesting data …  Bring your lunch, we bring coffee, tea, cookies and the occassional home-made pie.
  • The first week of every month, there’s a lunch for PhD students and postdocs at Vooruit
  • We organize writing sessions, where you can work with other PhD students on articles and chapters of your dissertation, without feeling alone.
  • Social activities! After work drinks, movie nights, anything goes. We’ll announce these in our Facebook group, so make sure to join it if you want to be informed!

Hope to see you there!

Why?

  • Gain experience with presenting (for example as a preparation for an upcoming conference)
  • Have the opportunity to present (aspects of) your own research and receive feedback.
  • Discuss uncertainties and questions (about your theory, the methodology or the results of your own research)
  • Share knowledge on (new) methodologies, corpora, computer programs etc.
  • Expand your network in the department
  • Have fun with your colleagues!

Who?

Our primary target groups for the talks are PhD students who recently started their project, and PhDs who are nearly finished.

Don’t worry, you are still more than welcome to attend the lectures, or writing sessions when you are a (post)doc, professor, or other interested party.
